The Lady...Or The Spoiled, Damaged Child

Based on who his parents were, it would be hard for Donald J. Trump to be anything but a spoiled, damaged child.

His father was a racist, sociopathic, mobbed up crook. 

His mother apparently had no interest in being a mother. Or at least no discenible mothering skills.

Throw in Roy Cohn, certainly a contender for worst Americans ever, as a mentor, and the outcome was set.

So...Donald turned out pretty much as one would expect. "The apple", as they say, "doesn't fall very far from the tree."

If he hadn't inherited all that money, cheating his siblings in the process, he would've ended up in a trailer, down by the river. The sort of person good parents would warn their children to avoid.

In a sane world, this wouldn't be anyone's problem--except his immediate family and anyone stupid enough to do business with him.

But, as you may have noticed, this is not a sane world, and there are millions of people who literally worship that pile of Orange Bile.

Rapist, tax fraud, business cheat, adulterer, bully, Putin's puppet, traitor, all wrapped in a smelly package that is rapidly sinking into dementia.

None of that seems to matter to his disciples.

Or to the vile advisors he surrounds himself with. The Project 2025 scum. The people who choose his judges for him. The Libertarian billionaires, especially little Elon Musk. All of them couldn't care less about the majority of our citizens. They care, without exception, for their bank accounts, or their ridiculous religious beliefs, or their deluded views of our history, or their enormous egos. Or maybe just for the blinding whiteness of their skin. They're all committed to using him to get what they want.

Not what's good for the people. What's good for them. The people be damned.

Fortunately, I believe that there are more good people in this country than there are MAGAts.

At least, I hope so.

It's either President Harris, or the end of the American experiment.

It's just that simple.

Counseling him? Who wouldn't benefit from the knowledge of Glorious Leader Orange Man?

No, what's important here is that Trump could call anyone else--anyone--"seriously troubled." 

Let us list, briefly and no doubt incompletely, Trump's uh...let's call them troubles:

Traitor. Insurrectionist. Twice impeached. Adulterer. Accused rapist. Tax fraud. Mob ties. Multiple bankruptcies. Pathological liar. Racist. Lusts after his eldest daughter.

Any "help" from someone with that resume would be...priceless.

Things We Don't Talk About Enough

America's eugenics movement inspired the Nazis. Oops.

Republican presidential candidates committed treason on at least three separate occasions: Nixon's team meddled in the Paris peace accords in 1968, promising the North Vietnamese a "better" deal if they'd reject LBJ's proposed deal. Reagan's team talked to the Iranians in 1980, promising them a "better" deal if they'd reject Carter's deal for the hostages. And Trump, of course, is so far up Putin's ass that he can count the Republican Congressmen nesting there.

Slavery and stolen land helped build this great land of ours.

Guns DO kill people. All the fucking time.

Nobody needs an AR-15 for self protection.

People who like to throw their Second Amendment "rights" in your face always leave out the part that says "a well regulated militia."

Back in the 1950's, the decade that conservatives are so nostalgic for, the corporate tax rate was 45%, and the personal tax rate for the richest people topped out at 91%.

(Actually, it's the 1850's that they're really longing for.)

There's way too many Catholics on the Supreme Court. And the Republican ones are seemingly longing for a return of the Inquisition.

Churches that decide to meddle in politics should be taxed.

Apparently the Christo-fascist majority on the Supreme Court think that their black robes and lifetime appointments make them bullet proof. I guess we'll see.

Libertarians have never built a goddamn thing by themselves.

Without massive government support, all those Billionaire Libertarians would just be a gaggle of cranks sitting at the far end of some dive bar, talking to themselves.

 

An Incomplete List Of American Disgraces

(A complete list would take up way too much space...)

Homeless people. We are the richest country on the face of the earth.

Hungry people. We are the richest country on the face of the earth. And the fattest, too. But somehow we still have people going hungry, and children whose one good meal a day is provided by their school, which, of course, conservatives want to take away.

Mentally ill people set loose on the streets. Thanks again, Saint Reagan.

People with no health insurance. Because, you know, national health care is SOCIALISM!

People who refuse to be vaccinated. Because, you know, FreeDumb.

Substandard schools for poorer people. Sweet demi-palaces for richer people. There is a public elementary school that I drive by that has recently built a multi-purpose structure that would not be out of place at Lincoln Center, in New York City. Meanwhile, there are schools nearby with not enough books, not enough  paper, not enough pencils. Computers? Hahaha. And don't get me started on charter schools and the voucher system.

Bullet proof backpacks for school kids. Because some people think that their right to bear arms is more important than anyone else's right to live.

Lugnutz who wander around with their AR-15's. They think they look tough, but what they really look like is scared little boys playing army.

Idiots who can say, with a straight face, that slavery "wasn't so bad".

Idiots who oppose teaching that slavery was indeed that bad. Bad in such a profound and disturbing way that it should shame every decent white person in America, and cause them to dedicate themselves to finally fix its lasting ills.

Thank God For Our Hillbillies

Think how advanced we'd be as a people, as a nation, if we hadn't had our hillbillies digging in their heels, and slowing us down every step of the way.

We'd have universal health care, a guaranteed living wage, rational gun control, justice for all-- regardless of skin color, a burgeoning green economy, and equal opportunity for all of our citizens.

But we can't, because our millions of hillbillies want it to be 1856...forever.

And when I say hillbillies, I don't just mean people with a handful of teeth, living in a shack, married to a cousin and eyeing their daughters, somewhere in the Ozarks or the Appalachians.

No, I have it on very good authority that there are hillbillies throughout this great land of ours. In our Congress, in very expensive condos in NYC, in well guarded mansions in Silicon Valley, in state houses and judges' chambers across the land, hell, even in the White House!

And Now, A Few Words About Reparations

Recently, the Arizona Republic published an editorial cartoon that showed Adam and Eve asking for Reparations for being forced from the Garden of Eden. I suppose a certain segment of the Republic's readers found this to be clever.

Except...Adam and Eve and their Garden are a fairy tale and slavery actually happened. Human beings sold like cattle. Women raped and impregnated by their "owners". Men and women brutalized and murdered, or worked until death. Children taken from their parents and sold to the highest bidder. You know, the part of American history that certain people tend to gloss over, or ignore completely.

 

Since I'm a reasonable person, if someone can convince me that all the atrocities against African Americans stopped with the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th, 14th, 15th and 24th Amendments, and that we live now in a "color blind", just society, with equal opportunity for all, good schools and fair housing for everyone, then I'll agree that the idea of reparations is absurd. 

 

Until then, do us all a favor and keep the fairy tales for Sunday school.

Very Rich People Don't Really Like Democracy Much

Bedlam By The Lake

Bedlam was the first insane asylum, back in medieval England. Which wasn't quite as Merry as the brochures make it out to be...

There were no psychiatrists, no psycho-tropic drugs, no concept of compassionate care for the inflicted, not even a padded cell. Of course, everybody was scared shitless of a vengeful God and the seemingly arbitrary punishments of the Church and State, but even with all that "law and order" hanging over them there were still lunatics and the criminally insane roaming about.

They didn't really know what to do with "them", so they just locked 'em up. Theoretically safer for "them", definitely safer for society as a whole. God alone knows what went on in the bowels of Bedlam.

But, you know what they say, "out of sight, out of mind."

So, what I'm thinking is, we get some big padlocks and lock all the doors of Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena while they are all inside.

We can worry about compassionate care and possible treatment later.

What's going on in the deep recesses of the Republican convention is as appalling as anything that went on in Bedlam. In fact, the incestuous reactionary racist circle jerk that surrounds Der Trump would probably make your garden variety medieval lunatic retch.

The United States Of Insanity

Trump? Cruz? Kasich?

No sane person would want any of these clowns anywhere near the Oval office.

Not the tiny fisted, carny barker megalomaniac, not the hyper religious, gun worshiping, snake oil salesman, and no, not even the one who seems almost reasonable compared to the other two, but down deep is just another reactionary hack.

And yet, there are millions of Americans of voting age who are seriously considering voting for them.

So, we are forced to confront the fact that many millions of Americans are simply out of their minds.

They know nothing of history. They have no concept of truth and fiction. They live in a fact free zone.

Their big issues are abortions, guns, religion, and immigration.

Oh, yeah, and an all encompassing fear and hatred of "the other".

They are dead certain that the brown people are getting away with something.

And if only "we" could stop them, everything would be fine and we could go back to our idyllic Mayberry past.

They truly madly deeply believe this shit!

And here's the kicker: Republican controlled states across this great land of ours have spent the last decade figuring out new and better ways to rig elections. Whether by simple gerrymandering or outright voter suppression they have made it harder and harder for Democrats to vote.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

And that legendary conservative icon, Saint Ronald Reagan, attempted to prevent it, but was undermined by Hollywood and the Mainstream Media?

Remember when all those raging socialist bankers helped minority homeowners crash the entire world's economy?

Remember when the godless liberals started forcing women to have abortions? At gunpoint?

Grabbing them off the streets, and shoving them into the bloody hands of those butchers at Planned Parenthood?

Remember when the Clintons let the Iraqi's crash those planes into the World Trade Center?

If only George W. Bush and Dick Cheney had been in charge!

And finally, remember way back, centuries ago in fact, when all those "illegal immigrants" from Africa stormed our shores, and the good Christian people of the South took them in and gave them housing and jobs?

A Few Bad Apples

Every time a cop shoots an unarmed person--often in the back--or roughs up a bystander, or misbehaves in such an obviously egregious way that even a blind Tea Party Republican can see that it's wrong, we hear the same thing:

"Sure there are a few bad apples, but most of the police are professional and besides they have such a tough job that blah blah blah..."

Some of that might even be true.

But here's the deal:

The police NEVER willingly get rid of any of their "few" bad apples.

On the contrary, they fight like hell to justify the actions of any cop who does anything, no matter how heinous, to anyone.

And so, there's an ever lengthening trail of busted heads and corpses left behind by the seemingly endless supply of "a few bad apples."
