So I'm scanning the Huffington Post the other day, searching for tidbits, and what do I find?
"Obama's handling of the Syrian conflict has been 'an unmitigated disaster'." So saith one Karl Rove.
Well...If there's anyone with a working knowledge of disasters in the Middle East, and elsewhere, it would be Karl "Turd Blossom" Rove. Or Donald "There Are Knowns and Unknows, But Mostly A Whole Bunch Of Stuff I Don't Have A Fucking Clue About" Rumsfeld. Or Condi "I'll Be At Jimmy Choo's If You Need Me" Rice. Or Lil Dick "The Dark Lord" Cheney. Or any of the Bush Gang, including ol Simple W. his own self.
The idea of any member of that crew being taken seriously when they pontificate about any aspect of the government is laughable.
Their wars have cost the United States trillions of dollars, killed hundreds of thousands of people, crippled an untold number more, and displaced millions. Oh yeah, and they poisoned the well for the foreseeable future for any President or Secretary of State who goes before the United Nations with a legitimate concern. Their lies destroyed whatever moral authority our country might have once had, given plausible deniability to murderous dictators everywhere, and the moral high ground to Vladimir Putin, of all people.
The aptly nicknamed "Turd Blossom" should stop talking about foreign policy, about which he and his erstwhile employers have proven they know absolutely nothing, and get back to trying to steal elections by whatever-means-necessary, which is something about which he is an expert.
Don and David. Just two guys from Arizona who tend to get a bit ticked off about all sorts of things. So we've decided we need somewhere to vent -- and we will vent about anything. Mostly politics, but we'll talk about books, music, movies and anything else that strikes our fancy. We're also pretty big Springsteen fans (especially Don) so you're likely to see some videos here.. We hope you will let us know your thoughts about our rants -- but we promise to treat you fairly.

What's in A Name?
Last week, they unveiled portraits of George W. Bush and his fawning wife, what's-her-name, at the White House. Simple W. cracked a few jokes, smirked his frat boy smirk, and it was just like old times...
Brought back a lot of memories: Florida 2000, fat Jeb, the Supreme Court shitting all over the Constitution, 9-11, turning a surplus into a deficit, Iraq, Osama Bin Laden alive and kicking, tax cuts for the richest, W. looking like a chimp in a flight suit, "mission accomplished", Katrina, rendition, Rummy, Condi, Wall Street's meltdown, Halliburton, Blackwater, the Dark Lord Cheney's fetching sneer--ah Jesus, the list is endless...
Which reminds me, Bush's nickname for Karl Rove is "turd blossom".
Rove is also widely known as "Bush's brain".
Ergo, George W. Bush has shit for brains.

Lie Hard, or: It's A Shame
The title of Mission Man's last post included the words "should be ashamed, but isn't."
This brings up an interesting question: "Whatever happened to the concept of shame?"
It is obvious, looking at the ongoing spectacle of American democracy, that the idea of "shame", of "being ashamed" about anything, has fallen out of favor.
Take the Republican Tea Party for example. Its candidates and their paid lackeys lie and dissemble about everything. The economy, Obamacare, jobs, obstructionism, Libya, Iraq, Social Security, Medicare, abortion, taxes, racism, gender issues--pick any subject and the lies fall down around us like a steady Spring rain. They hit the ground and little patches of fresh new lies quickly sprout.
When their lies are pointed out, they either continue to just lie harder or simply change the subject. And they have no shame about it. None at all. It seems that shame has gone out of fashion.
For instance, in a country where shame still played a role in life, Dick Cheney, George W. Bush, Condi Rice and Donald Rumsfeld would be ashamed to show their faces in public. Instead they all have lucrative book deals and speaking tours. They are not war criminals, they are celebrities and they have fans!
When I was a boy, many, many, long years ago, I was taught to tell the truth. I assume most, if not all, of you were told the same thing. Of course, as I aged, I quickly realized that sometimes it is necessary to tell a little lie if only to ease yourself through some tense social situations. "Yes, you were great in that play" and "No, I love the green bean casserole" come to mind.
Apparently, our Tea Party friends decided to expand these few necessary exceptions to every single aspect of life. When exposed, they have one time tested, automatic retort, (all together now) "the liberals/Democrats do it too!!!"
When it is pointed out that this is not always true and anyway, even if it were, it doesn't lessen their perfidy, they, you guessed it, lie again.
Maybe they're doing us a favor. Perhaps after years of having passive consumerism shoved down our throats as a substitute for active, participatory citizenship, "we the people" couldn't handle the truth. But at this rate we'll never know.
Shame, shame, shame.

Condi Says The Darndest Things
Last night I wasted a few irreplaceable minutes watching the despicable Condi Rice dissemble all over poor Lawrence O'Donnell. You almost have to admire the Republicans' ability to stick with their story even when it has been proven again and again to be nothing but lies. And they do it with such primal ferocity that if you hadn't been paying much attention for the last 30 years or so you might believe they were telling the truth.
In case you were lucky enough to miss Ms Rice, here are the highlights: Saddam was a threat to the US and it made perfect sense to attack Iraq. There was nothing for the Bush administration to apologize for. History will vindicate blah, blah, blah.
I'm reminded of something Saul Bellow once said to a famous literary critic, "still peddling the same old horseshit?" I suppose I'm a hopeless dreamer, but once before I die I'd like to hear one of the Bush gang say the following: "Boy, we really fucked that whole thing up, didn't we? Man, what were we thinking? A few thousand Americans killed, many tens of thousands more mutilated either physically or mentally, not to mention a million dead Iraqi's. Cost the US several trillion dollars, too. In fact, no one came out ahead but Halliburton and Blackwater. If only someone--anyone--had taken the time to read those memos about Bin Laden and act on them we could have saved everyone a lot of heartache. Can you ever forgive us?"
Of course the answer to that is a resounding "NO."
For the record, Condoleezza Rice was an abysmal failure as both a national security adviser and as a Secretary of State. That this woman "teaches" at Stanford puts that whole "Harvard of the West" thing in a new light, don't it? Actually I'm kinda surprised that she's not running for President. A resume like that, studded with catastrophic mistakes, should be pure gold with Republican voters.
Nice shoes though.
