Punching Down

You can learn a lot about people by who they choose to attack.

For instance, Republicans always go after minorities.

ALWAYS.

Never powerful people. People able to strike back. People with deep enough pockets to defend themselves.

No. In fact they grovel before wealth.

Republicans much prefer attacking relatively powerless people.

Black people. Brown people. Young people. Gay people. Transgender people. Muslim people. Pick a minority and the Republicans will eventually attack it.

The only exception to this that I can think of is Jewish people.

Republicans don't generally attack Jewish people. (George Soros being a notable exception.) Mind you, this isn't because there isn't a rich strain of antisemitism running through The Big Tent. Always has been, always will be. No, it's just because there are enough wealthy Jews willing and able to hit back.

And when you punch back at a Republican, they generally run away with their tails between their legs.

They even attack women.

Of course this is because they're so fucking stupid that they think that women are a minority.

And just because most Republican women are content being breeding stock, they think that all women should be content being breeding stock.

So they were shocked, shocked by the backlash against the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade.

They finally got what they've dreamt about all these years, and quelle surprise, a large majority of Americans are pissed at them.

Good. Let them squirm and dissemble. Let them spew their States' Rights bullshit. Let them try to walk it back.

After years of making punching down a key part of their policy, they've picked a fight they cannot win.

All Republican Women Must Be Suffering From Stockholm Syndrome

That is the only logical conclusion.

I know that logic has nothing to do with Republicans in general and Republican women in particular, but still, that is the only logical conclusion.

Why else would they continually vote against their own self-interests?

Equal pay for equal work. Maternity leave. Reproductive rights. Pre-school programs. After school programs. Universal health care. Social Security. Affirmative action.

All of these things are anathema to Republicans.

All benefit women.

And yet Republican women vote against them.

They are a textbook example of Stockholm Syndrome, literally sympathizing with their captors (Republican men).

Ooops...

Wouldn't it be funny if Il Trumpo was done in for saying out loud what is essentially the logical next step in the Republican position on abortion?

After all the other stupid shit he's said?!

That insane crap about Mexicans and Muslims and the Middle East and building walls and China and the whole world laughing at us and "birtherism" and nuclear weapons and every piece of offensive, idiotic nonsense he's burbled in the last few months...

That was all OK. After all, anything to attack the black president is OK.

But voicing what many pro-lifers must truly believe?

Oops.

I say "truly believe" because abortion is "murder" to them. And there must be punishment for "murder". Ask all those fire breathing, frothing at the mouth, fundamentalist pastors that support Ted Cruz.

Somebody has to pay!

So they applaud or look the other way when women's clinics are fire bombed and doctors murdered.

And they create ridiculous laws to hamper the whole process of abortion.

Which, the last time I checked, was a right protected by the Constitution.

Oh, I forgot! Republicans get to pick and choose which parts of the Constitution, and laws in general, that they follow. Because, uh...Jesus?

Therefore, based on their line of reasoning, it only makes sense that there should be some form of punishment for the women who participate in these "murders".

Unless it's a Republican woman who gets an abortion...

But that would never happen, would it?

The Republican Party Really Would Prefer That Some Of You Do Not Vote

If you're a white male with property, fine.

Go ahead and vote!

That's what God, and our scared Constitution, originally intended.

But women...? Well, see, women are irrational beings. They have the "menses" you know? And since they can't even be trusted with control over their own bodies, why would you trust them to vote?

Let's compromise: women can vote ONLY if they vote like their husbands. Their white male husbands with property, that is.

As for your lesser races...well...NO.

Sorry.

What about poor whites? Just like the wimmenfolks, they can vote--but only if they vote exactly like their betters.

See, democracy doesn't have to be so messy, after all!

Scared Stupid

It must be really hard to be a Republican these days.

You have to be scared all of the time.

Scared of black people!

Scared of brown people!

Scared of gay people!

Scared of women's reproductive systems!

Scared that the Army is going to attack Texas!

Scared that the terrorists are just outside the door, waiting to cut off your head!

Scared that our Muslim Kenyan Socialist President, who, by the way, won two national elections against the best your party could offer--and rather easily at that--is coming for your sacred guns!

And now, to top it off, you have to be scared of Syrian orphans!

Wow, all of that fear must be exhausting.

We Are What We Are

It should be simple enough. Your political party needs to attract some combination of women, Hispanics, African Americans and gays to survive.

Your base is old and white and dying out. Sooner or later you will die out with them.

So, you have to figure out some way to appeal to a broader demographic.

It isn't that hard. It really isn't. You know what you need to say and do. Everybody knows what you need to say and do. It isn't rocket science, after all.

But every time you try, every single time, you end up shooting yourself in the foot.

One of your geniuses says something so offensive, so reactionary, so antebellum South in its nature that people laugh at you.

Oh, not all of the people. Just the ones you're trying to court.

You end up repelling and offending the very people you need to survive.

Why?

The truth is, you can't help yourselves.

Because, at the end of the day, we are what we are.

The world changes, but people don't change much. We just get older. So if you were taught hatred and bigotry and racism as a child, if those were your family values, odds are you still harbor those characteristics at your core.

You are what you are. And you were raised without any empathy for anyone who might be different.

You genuflect before money. You are living in the past and you fear the prospect of change. You believe all the Bible stories you learned in Sunday school. Science is just a bunch of theories. Minorities are inferior. Women are chattel. And don't get you started on the "gay agenda."

You are what you are.
